Just to show you the logic behind your comment: with only /report, it's solely black. Or with /report, normal thanks and normal insults it's not very nice.

They're not even opposites.
Ah yes the Random Acts of Kindness thing, if you're so against it, why don't you present your logic and theories to ANet? If anything, people help others for the wrong reasons, just to get rewards... doesn't that support your logic? So please, by all means, present that to ANet.

NO NO NO title...please don't make each /thank 1 pt into the popularity title. It'll be like MapleStory's "Buying fame for 5k"
I /thank you for thinking of this idea

I would like this for the first four options at least, but not a title or drop bonuses. That just begs being abused. I do like the angel's wings, myself. Some little bonus maybe encouraging me to go do more charitable acts as I always like to do, helping with missions for random PUGs, helping someone on a quest etc. Would actually be kind of neat if sometimes after doing such a thing you got a little reward, non-monetary. What that is well... that's open, but its a nice idea.

Over all, I like the idea. But it will be heavly abused. Limits would need to be imposed. Perhaps requiring the person giving the thanks should be required to explain why they are thanking them.

Nice idea. However I would make it similar to /report. Abuse of it will get your account suspended or banned. You won't know who thanked you though, unless they tell you beforehand, as it will be anon like reporting. Also, after being thanked 100,000 times you get a one tiered title called "Domo Arigato!". Think about it. You can't go to Kamadan and spam "Paying 1k to be thanked!" because you'll be reported for spamming and/or your messages will get suppressed.

Maybe add a title, but one account can get a thanks for someone just one time in a year. So you can't get 2 thanks for one person ;p And maybe a limit of 5 thanks daily? Anyway...

While it makes sense to have the carrot, the same rules would apply as to /report or it will lose the point.
Which means you can get banned for abuse, which means the carrot needs it's own stick, which means it loses it's point no matter what.
The only way this would work if the bonus was useless and lasting no longer than the time you area in.
(in other words, people wouldn't want to make bogus /thanks because they wouldn't do nothing)
meaning the bonus would be reduced to like.
A whisper message/pingy sound. (like clapping or something)
A gods blessing chat message by the thanker instead of the gods, only in the area of the person being thanked(entire server would be spammed to death other wise, and needs a spam blocker for if you ask your entire alliance to /thank you)
Or a visual halo, paragon wings while in the area.(For that you'd ask for bogus /thanks, but they do so little it wouldn't really matter)
The idea is good, but one trough the human factor it all ends up rather pointless.

I don't see this feature as a counter-part of /report, so for me it makes no sense to apply the same rules. It should not have any real "advantage", no title, no money, no skill, no this or that. Simply add a nice little thingie (actually, it'd be better to have several so that people who are kind and are rewarded a lot via /thanks could actually experience different things, an emote, a graphical element). Keep It Simple (Stupid), do not make it a Big Thing (TM), it should stay as "un-natural" as possible and not open the doors of "over-esteem".
Look at the "Random Acts of Kindness" of the (resurrected) Scribe. Is this adding anything to the game? Not per se, as it is not tied to the mechanics of the game, rather its "surface". And the /thanks feature could propose to put this tool in the hands of the community, exactly like /report (of course it MUST be limited to, say, one thank a day and no more than 2 thanks to the same person in a week, that's an example).

GW has become what it is thanks to the "human factor". Without it, nothing would have been achieved. And as I mentioned before, in big communities (GWG is one, that may be only 2 or 3% of the whole GW community?) we tend to inflate the "bad reports" in comparison to the "good" ones in situations of "relative threat" (whatever you consider this to be).
Once more: yes the /thanks feature can be abused, but the abuse would only lead to people bragging and showing to others how immature they are (and that's not a bad thing).

Hmm hmm *takes official tone* Anet decided that this title would not count towars any GW feature, it couldn't even be displayed, but it will still give you access to some nice freebies.
*end of official tone, normal voice* Free dyes for the /thanked!

And that already exists, with or without "/thanks".
And some of you people really need to read at least the 1st page posts before making a comment.

There are many things that don't have a "use". Why do we have so many different skins for weapons? They all have the same max stats. Why do we have so many different hairs, faces and skin colour to choose from? Why did they bother skinning anything? For all I care, we could all be stick figures...
So I ask you, why did you make such a insensate comment?

Lots of interesting discussion so far.
I think the general consensus is that the idea is good, but potentially abuseable.
I still think that as long as even a minority take it upon themselves to behave better to others, even if it is a soley selfish endeavour, then the system has worked.
If people chose to get /thanked for the wrong reasons (paying, circle-thanking, or what have you), so be it. It does no harm to anyone.
I added the list of /signed and /unsigned to the OP.

Alright, you know what, I have changed my mind. However, only on the basis that the /thank command gives no advantages to the thankee (or thanker). The halo thing is a nice idea, perhaps after getting maybe 5-10 /thanks. The downside is that this would create a breed of people who would town-hop and yell in local "Everyone /thank me! I want the glowy thing!" However, the novelty would wear off eventually, and it would become a bit more bearable.
I guess throw me to the /signed list. I was primarily against it because I didn't see what good it would do. However, that's never a good reason to disagree with an idea. If Anet then decides that it isn't worth the effort, so be it.

Its a good idea and once any exploits "If any excist" are worked out it could be fun.
Be interesting to see if anyone walking around with a visible sign of helping gets mobbed in towns.

I'm in favor of a title *IF* it's temporary. Say reduced by 50% per day. That would discourage fame trading a la MapleStory.
